Rabbi Pynchas Brener was born in Tyszowce, Poland, and at the age of four emigrated with his family to Peru. His father, Abram Brener, was the Grand Rabbi there for thirty years.

He received his Bachelor of Arts (in mathematics) and Rabbinic Ordination from Yeshiva University in New York, his Master's degree (in mathematical statistics) from Columbia University, and is a PhD honoris causa from Bar Ilan University in Israel (of which he is a member of the Board of Governors) .

From 1967 to 2011 he was the Chief Rabbi of the Unión Israelita de Caracas, the Ashkenazi community. He is now its Chief Rabbi Emeritus. In 1978 he founded the Committee on Relations Among Venezuelan Churches and Synagogues (CRISEV), of which he remains president. Rabbi Brener was Professor of Mathematics at the Universidad Simón Bolívar from 1971 to 1983.

He is the author of several books about Judaism, including El Diálogo Eterno, Las Escrituras: Hombres e Ideas, and Fe y Razón. His books of prayer for religious holidays won him the Premio Nacional de Libro. For many years he was a columnist for El Nacional and El Universal, as well as the weekly Nuevo Mundo Israelita. In the 1980’s Rabbi Brener started a weekly meeting of intellectuals, called “Café con fe”, which he has continued, from Miami, on YouTube and Facebook. His website is www.pynchasbrener.com.

In August, 2019 Rabbi Brener was named Venezuelan Ambassador to Israel by (Acting) President Juan Guaidó. The appointment was confirmed by the Venezuelan National Assembly.
